Wolf Eclipse Ch 1

Ch. 1- Akatuki (I title the chapters by the character it's about, mainly)

  Akatuki yawned a bit. It wasn't bright out, and it was cold in the mouth of the cave where she had positioned herself. She eased stiffly into a sitting position and yawned. One of her ears was upright, like a full-grown wolf's, but the other one flopped down like her siblings'. She tried to remember why she'd wanted to wake up so early. Then she remembered. Today was the first day of spring. Her FIRST spring.
  She jumped excitedly to her feet, almost yipping in delight, but catching her tongue. She couldn't wake Sky, her mother-- she'd keep her here in fear that she would get hurt off on her own. So instead, Akatuki padded quietly over to her favorite sister, Feather.
  "Psst... Feather... wake up. Don't you wanna watch the sun rise with me?"
  The little silvery-white pup yawned lazily and opened one brown eye. "Aka... can't we sleep for five more minutes? I'm still so tired..."
  "If we sleep any more, we'll miss it!" Aka hissed, as quietly as possible.
  "Fiiine," Feather groaned, lurching to her feet. "But I better get a long nap today! And you're gonna be explaining why!"
  "Yeah, yeah... now, let's GO!"
  The two pups slank out of the cave, then bolted for Aka's favorite spot.

  "Wow... it feels like so long since we've been here!" Feather exclaimed as they finally arrived at their destination.
  "Mmhmm," Aka sighed, taking in the view. It was a tall, lush hill with a river around the side. It was in the middle of the woods, and there was an old cave-like hole near the bottom of the cave. Aka had never been inside, but she had decided she would visit it when she got a bit older-- old enough to not be stuck in a cave and watched constantly.
  The two excited pups dashed up the hill, stumbling over their paws once or twice, and then sat at the top, patiently waiting for the sun to come up.
  "There it is!" Aka yipped happily, as the sun peeked over the horizon. The darkness faded away as it slowly rose seemingly out of the ground, making beautiful colors like a canvas splattered with paint.
  "It's beautiful," Feather breathed. "I've never seen anything so magnificent...!"
  "Me neither," agreed Aka. She took a deep breath, scenting the air. It smelled different, somehow- fresh and new, and still a bit crisp. And then, something else caught in the breeze as well. The fur on her neck and back raised up as though it had a will all its own, and her ears drew flat against her head as a tiny growl vibrated in her throat.
  "What is it...?" Feather asked, looking at her, confused.
  "I smell something... and I don't like it. I think we should go back..."
  THUNK! A dart shot out of the undergrowth and landed scarcely an inch from Feather's paw.
  "What's that--!?" Feather began.
  "RUN!"
